Gitanjali 17

Rabindranath Tagore (1861–1941) · 1912

10 lines · from Gitanjali (Song Offerings)

I am only waiting for love to give myself up at last into his hands. That is why it is so late and why I have been guilty of such omissions.

They come with their laws and their codes to bind me fast; but I evadethem ever, for I am only waiting for love to give myself up at lastinto his hands.

People blame me and call me heedless; I doubt not they are right intheir blame.

The market day is over and work is all done for the busy. Those whocame to call me in vain have gone back in anger. I am only waiting forlove to give myself up at last into his hands.

About this section

Gitanjali 17 is prose, printed in 4 paragraphs. It is part of the edition and is kept for reading, but nothing here is measured: the line breaks are the printer's, so no metre, rhyme scheme or scansion is stated.

The reader shows the same poem with its rhymes coloured and a stress row above each line, the notes beside their stanzas, and any word's definition on a tap; the analysis page takes the whole book apart. How every part of this site was made.
