Laurel has no advertising and nothing about you is ever sold. It does count visits, using Google Analytics, so that we know which poems people actually read. This page says exactly what that records, and what else the site stores and where.

Everything stays in your browser. Your progress in the courses, your scores, notes, edition, reading settings and your place in each book are kept in the browser's own storage on your device. We never see them. They vanish if you clear the browser's site data, and they do not follow you to another device.
We store the username you chose, a hash of your password (never the password itself), and the email address if you gave one. We also keep the date you joined and the sign-in tokens for the devices you have signed in on. We also store what the account is for: your scores, notes, flashcards, course and track progress, edition, reading settings and book positions, so that they follow you between devices. The account page lets you download all of it as one file, or delete the account, which removes every row at once.
Five things leave your browser for other services. A count of the page you are reading goes to Google Analytics, on every page; the four below happen only when you use the feature. Typefaces load from Google Fonts. When you click a name the classical dictionaries do not know, the reader asks Wikipedia for a summary; Wikipedia then sees that request. The map and atlas draw their data from us, but the mapping library itself loads from the cdnjs content network. If the site is placed behind Cloudflare for protection, Cloudflare sees the requests it passes to us, under its own privacy terms.
Like every web server, ours keeps short-lived logs of requests (address, page, time) for security and to keep the site running. It also counts requests per address per minute, to stop abuse. These are not joined to accounts and are discarded on a rolling basis.
The site is suitable for students of any age and asks for no personal information beyond a chosen username; a parent or teacher may create accounts for younger readers. If you believe a child has given us more than that, tell us and we will remove it.
You can see, download, correct and delete your data yourself from the account page at any time. For anything else, use report in the reader or write to Contubernales Books, and we will answer.
